This full-day fundamental training is offered for new Watch for Me NC partner communities or officers who have not yet participated in previous Watch for Me NC training courses.

Officers have the opportunity to attend training at any location. Additionally, this training course is free and open to ALL members of law enforcement agencies and university campus police. Priority seats will be given to Watch for Me NC partner communities first.  Attendance in a Watch for Me NC law enforcement training is required in order to gain access to report and receive credits for related enforcement activities through GHSP’s STEP system.

Watch for Me NC materials will be distributed to applicant communities contingent on participation in law enforcement training. A law enforcement officer from an applicant community must attend training. Materials will be shipped following training attendance.

This course provides law enforcement officers with the special traffic management knowledge and skills they need to improve pedestrian and bicyclist safety in their communities. Sgt. Brian Massengill with the Durham Police Department will present the latest pedestrian and bicyclist safety enforcement information. Topic areas include:

  • Engineering for pedestrian/bicycle safety
  • How pedestrian/bicycle crashes occur
  • The role of education and enforcement
  • Relevant laws and enforcement practices
  • Mock crosswalk enforcement operations
  • Crash investigation and reporting
  • Potential law enforcement partners

The course will include hands-on, in-the-field training on how to conduct a Pedestrian Crosswalk Enforcement Operation.

Lunch will be provided during training.
