This full-day course is offered for new Watch for Me NC partner communities or officers who have not yet participated in previous Watch for Me NC training courses.

This training course is free and open to ALL members of law enforcement agencies and university campus police. Attendance in Watch for Me NC training may count towards STEP credits.

This course provides law enforcement officers with the special traffic management knowledge and skills they need to improve pedestrian and bicyclist safety in their communities. Sgt. Brian Massengill with the Durham Police Department will present the latest pedestrian and bicyclist safety enforcement information. Topic areas include:

  • Engineering for pedestrian/bicycle safety
  • How pedestrian/bicycle crashes occur
  • The role of education and enforcement
  • Relevant laws and enforcement practices
  • Mock crosswalk enforcement operations
  • Crash investigation and reporting
  • Potential law enforcement partners

The course will include hands-on, in-the-field training on how to conduct a Pedestrian Crosswalk Enforcement Operation.

Lunch will be provided during training.
